SDI - Open Water Scuba Diver Course

Introduction
This entry-level certification course is designed to give students the necessary skills to safely conduct open water scuba dives in conditions similar to their training without the direct supervision of an instructor.

This course is where it all starts. Here, you will learn about the aquatic environment, the basics of scuba diving equipment and how to use it. You will learn all of the skills and techniques needed to begin your open water diving experiences.

Qualifications Of Graduates
Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may:
  1. Conduct open water dives in conditions similar to their training.
  2. Enroll in the SDI Advanced Diver Development program.


Who Teaches this Course ?

The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Course is taught by a highly trained SDI Scuba Instructor who will demonstrate skills and help you develop your scuba diving skills in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.


How Big are the Classes ?
Your accademic sessions may have as many as 16 students, but usually no more than about 8 when doing a group class. Private classes are available on a one on one basis. The pool sessions may have as many as 10 students, but usually no more than 6 when doing a group class. Private pool sessions are available on a one on one basis as well.

Open Water Training Dives are limited to 6 students at a time. Again, private sessions are available as well.

Course Format

The SDI Scuba Diver Course consists of three accademic sessions, three pool sessions and five open water training dives which includes one snorkel dive.

Student Pre-Requisites

The student must:

  1. Be a minimum age of eighteen (18), however participants may be between the ages of 12 to 17 years old so long as written parental consent is provided.

    Students are required to have their own Mask, Fins, Snorkel, and Boots by the 2nd pool session. (they can be provided for the first pool session.) We encourage you to NOT purchase equipment before the first classroom session as we will discuss equipment at that time.
